The eligibility criteria for the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam are as follows:

Nationality: The candidate must be a citizen of India.

Age Limit: The minimum age limit for the UPSC exam is 21 years, and the maximum age limit is 32 years for the General category candidates. There are age relaxations for candidates belonging to certain categories such as SC/ST, OBC, and others, as per the government of India’s rules.

Educational Qualification: The candidate must hold a degree from a recognized university or equivalent. Final-year students of degree courses can also apply for the exam.

Myopia combined with macular degenerative changes will be deemed unsuitable for IAS duty. Squinted-eyed people are suitable for serving. Moreover, night blindness is not a reason to exclude individuals.

  • Only individuals free of diabetic complications will be deemed suitable for duty.
  • The candidate’s hearing should be “good” in both ears, and he or she should be clear of any ear diseases. If a deficiency is found, the applicant should undergo further testing to see if it can be fixed surgically or with a hearing aid.
  • Except for those services that need physical training, pregnant women applicants will be in good physical condition. After imprisonment, the applicants in these situations will be deemed fit.
  • The teeth of candidates should be “in excellent order.”
  • The candidate’s heart and lungs should be healthy.
  • Ideally, there would be no stomach illnesses.
  • The hands, feet, and other limbs are all well-formed, and joint motions shouldn’t be restricted.

  • There shouldn’t be any symptoms of a recent or ongoing illness that would suggest a weak constitution.
  • Applicants should have signs of effective immunisation.
  • The applicants should be free of any contagious illnesses.
  • Applicants are deemed fit even if they have grade 1 hemorrhoids.
  • Hernias, varicose veins, hydrocele, haemorrhoids, and other conditions are classified as temporarily unfit and should be reclassified as fit after successful surgery.
  • Applicants are deemed unsuitable if they have cancer at the time of enlistment.
  • Applicants who have had organ transplants are deemed unsuitable. The sole exception is a corneal transplant.

The eligibility criteria for the UPSC exam are subject to change from time to time, and candidates are advised to check the latest eligibility criteria on the official UPSC website before applying for the exam.
